根据欧洲-地中海地震中心（EMSC），巴布亚纽几内亚海岸当地时间5日上午11时3分（台湾时间上午9时3分）发生规模6.2强震，震央位于亚东塞皮克省省会韦瓦克（Wewak）东北方69公里处外海，约在印尼查亚普拉（Jayapura） 以东406公里处，震源深度约10公里，目前未发布海啸警报。
