南方财经全媒体 见习记者 梁旭琦 纽约报道

Gold prices surged more than 1% on Thursday, driven by escalating tensions in the Middle East, disappointing U.S. economic data, and growing expectations that the Federal Reserve might cut interest rates. Spot gold jumped 1.8% to $2,423.25 per ounce, ending a five-day losing streak. Meanwhile, U.S. gold futures closed 1.3% higher at $2,463.30.

Earlier this year, central bank buying and over-the-counter purchases drove demand to record levels in the second quarter. According to the World Gold Council, gold demand increased by 4% compared to last year, reaching 1,258 metric tons, the highest second-quarter performance since 2000. During this period, gold prices hit a record high of $2,427 per troy ounce, with an average price of $2,338 per troy ounce, 18% higher than last year.
