【英语多益通】想知道米其林谁摘星？先学会这3个字

be famous for 因为～而闻名
Michelin, which is famous for favoring French and Japanese fine dining for its starred designations, has begun to honor the street food that is integral to the dining cultures in the Asian cities it covers.（米其林因偏好法式和日式精致美食并赋予星号而闻名，现在已经开始赋予荣耀光环给街头美食，因为它们在亚洲城市里可说是精致美食重要的一环。）
be famous for这个片语常见，大家应该很熟悉。后面介系词有两种，如果是「for~」，后面就要接闻名的理由，如文中说米其林因为后面这件事情而为人所知；若是加上「as~」，那就要接上作为什么身份而闻名。
例句：She is famous as the girl who saved the school.（她因为救了学校而出名。）
例句中的「as~」接的the girl who saved the school就是这个女孩出名的身份，当然也可以改写成She is famous for saving the school，因为介系词后面只能接名词，这边我们将save改成动名词saving才符合文法规则，如同文中将favor这个动词改成动名词favoring是一样的道理。
记住由于as后面接的都是一种身份，因此一定都是接一个单纯的名词，这样在考试时你就可以根据后面接的词性及单词的特性来判断选题了。多益更新题型的阅读部分注重同义词的判断，建议想要应考的考生建立同义词汇列表帮助自己记忆。
Famous同义词：well-known、celebrated、famed、renowned、noted、notable、respected等，另外也可以用动词片语have made a name for oneself来表达某人物很知名。
designation (n.)任命、指定
这个名词是从designate (v.)动词变化而来，有任命指定等意。而designated driver就是所谓的指定驾驶，用designated作为形容词有被指定的意思，是个把过去分词作为形容词的用法。形容词为designative，刚好和名词相对，「-tion」是名词变化，而「-tive」是形容词变化，若是人的名词变化则是designator，字尾「-or」通常是表示人的意思。
例句：He thinks the local government should designate one or two protest sites and leave the demonstrators alone. （他认为政府应该指定一到两个抗议地点，然后不去打扰抗议游行者。）
Designate同义词：appoint、nominate、delegate、select、choose、pick、decide one、settle on、name、assign等。这些都有选择指定之意，其中appoint算是多益高频率动词，大家可把握机会复习。
be integral to对～很重要的
请大家记住integral这个单字，因为它也是多益高频率单字。integral是来自integrate(v.)这个动词的形容词变化，integrate为结合的意思。
例句：The calculating mechanism is integrated into the whole accounting system.（这个计算机制被纳入整个会计系统。）
注意例句中integrated的用法要有into这个介系词，into后面接的the whole accounting system，是用来表示范围较大的系统，这句英文是用被动态来表达，若是用主动表达，就要有明确的行为者。
例句：The company integrates the calculating mechanism into the whole accounting system. （这间公司将这个计算机制纳入整个会计系统。）
只要把握基本概念原则，你就可以自由的变化语态了！Integration(n.)是integral的名词变化，而integrative(adj.)则是形容词变化，意思跟动词类似「结合的。」
Integral同义词：essential、fundamental、necessary、vital、important等。

解析：1. 题意为「这个备忘录的目的为何？」请大家先注意第一句的Please be advised that there will be a fire drill on November 5th, at 2 p.m.「请注意在11月五日下午两点的时候会有一场消防演习。」从题目去了解，可发现这是个公司内部沟通用的备忘录，而备忘录的目的就是通知员工事情，因此我们可以得知这备忘录是要告知员工有一场消防演习，内文应该就是注意事项等。因此答案要选(B)To notify the staff of tomorrow’s fire drill「通知员工明天的消防演习。」为何答案是tomorrow「明天」呢？因为备忘录发出的日期为November 4，而演习时间为November 5th，因此选项(B)为正确答案。
2. 题意为「员工在演习时应该要前往什么区域？」这题明显为细节题，通常细节题只要在内文寻找相关字句就很容易找到答案。Please proceed to the designated assembly or meeting areas on St. John's Square and Porter's Avenue in an orderly manner（请依序前往指定区域或是在St. John广场和Porter’s大道的会议区域。）从这句很明显就可以看出选项(D) St. John's Square and Porter's Avenue为正确答案。而这题要注意的是不能选(A)，因为文中有提到Please be aware that the old assembly zone on Main Street has been abandoned（请着在Main街道的旧集会区已经遭到弃置。）也就是Main Street已不再能去，故不能选 (A)。
