Guangzhou Little Petrel Children's Choir ranks among the top five in the world

Recently, INTERKULTUR, the most authoritative organization in the choral world, released the latest "World Rankings." Among the top 1,000 choirs globally, the Guangzhou Little Petrel Children's Choir ranked first in both the "Children's and Youth Choirs" and "Folklore" categories. Overall, it is ranked fifth in the world and is the only Chinese choir to achieve first place in two categories and enter the top ten globally.

The Guangzhou Little Petrel Children's Choir ("Little Petrel") was founded in 1978 and is one of the brand art teams under the Guangzhou Haizhu Children's Palace. It has received numerous honors, including "National Excellent Choir," "Guangdong Excellent Choir," "First Batch of 5A Choirs in Guangdong," "Outstanding Demonstration Choir in Guangzhou," and "High-Level Art Team in Guangzhou." In 2013, it won the "Group Star Award," the highest government prize for cultural arts in China, and achieved first place at the China Children's Choir Festival, hosted by the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic China, earning the "Little Nightingale" Cup.

In recent years, the Little Petrel has frequently won awards on the international choral stage. They have accumulated 19 gold medals and eight first-place titles in events such as the World Choir Games: Champions Competition and the International Johannes Brahms Choir Festival. They hold titles as dual champions in both the World Choir Games and the International Choir Festival.

Currently, the choir has nearly a thousand members across its beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels, with ages ranging from 5 to 16 years old. The shortest training duration for members is two to three years, while some have trained for up to nine years.

Between 2014 and 2019, the Little Petrel won seven gold medals at the World Choir Games. In 2019, they participated in the Grand Prix of Nations, where they secured first place in both the Children's Choir and the Folklore with Accompaniment categories with impressive scores of 96.95 and 95.5, respectively. This achievement represents the best result ever obtained by a Chinese choir in this competition and showcases the strength of Chinese children's choirs to the world.
