羊年到了！不妨一起来学学关于羊的英文惯用语吧！有别于华人社会对于羊的印象是温驯和顺，甚至优雅美丽，西方社会使用到 goat（山羊）或sheep（绵羊）的惯用语却以负面意思居多，举例如下：

Get one’s goat 惹怒某人

这个用语的来源有两种说法：一说是从早期的赛马而来，据说赛马者常会将安静的山羊和赛马饲养在同一个房间里，借此安顿马儿的情绪，倘若有人将山羊偷偷牵走，马儿就会因为没有山羊的陪伴变得急躁，最终输掉比赛，马主人当然火冒三丈。另一说是以前人们仰赖山羊供奶，山羊可谓珍贵的资产，所以牵走别人家的羊，对方当然会很火大。

The new mayor’s direct manner often gets others’ goats.

新市长的坦率作风常惹怒其他人。

Act the goat 装疯卖傻

act the goat有相当多面向的解释，可以说是为了逃避责任的「装傻」，也可解作逗人一笑的「耍笨」，有时还可形容人「疯颠」，亦可写作play the goat，但以act the goat较为常见。

Stop acting the goat! This is your job. You must be responsible for it.

别装傻了！这是你的工作，你必须负责。

Steve is a very funny person. We all like to see him playing the goat.

史蒂夫是个很搞笑的人，我们都喜欢看他耍笨。

These boys are always acting the goat. I don’t think that they can take any responsibility.

Sheep without a shepherd

乌合之众

羊群需要有牧羊人管理或牧羊犬带领，才能井然有序地前进，所以没有 shepherd 的羊群，就引申为「乌合之众」。

Our competitors are just sheep without a shepherd; we can beat them easily.

我们的竞争对手不过是一群乌合之众，我们可以轻易地打败他们。

The black sheep of the family

害群之马

由于大部分的羊都是白色，黑羊就显得特立独行，宛如「异类」。The black sheep of the family经常用来指「害群之马」或者「家族中的败家子」。

Bruce has no job. All he does is drink, gamble and fight. Undoubtedly he is the black sheep of the family.

布鲁斯没有工作，他整天喝酒、赌博和打架。毫无疑问地，他是家族里的败家子。
