【英语多益通】想当空服员？先看懂英文征人广告

最近某家航空公司在台湾本地的报纸上，刊登征求空服员的人事广告。征人广告再常见不过，但是它刊登的是「全英文」的广告。空服员这个光鲜亮丽、可以到世界各地去旅行的工作，颇令人向往。但是你如果看不懂这个英文征人广告，恐怕连第一步都难踏出。它的广告内容如下：
Flight Attendant (Hong Kong Base)
Key Responsibilities:．Carry out inflight safety and security procedures．Provide excellent customer service which exceeds passengers’ expectations．Anticipate and respond to passengers’ needs promptly and in a professional manner
Requirements:．Citizen of Republic of China．Minimum age of 18．High School graduate．Fluency in English and Mandarin (proficiency in speaking, reading & listening). A third language is preferable.．Polished interpersonal skills with a positive attitude and customer-oriented mindset．A minimum arm-reach of 208cm and physical fitness to pass the pre-employment medical assessment.
从标题“Flight Attendant(Hong Kong base)”可得知，要招募空服员（flight attendant），而且从“Hong Kong base”这样的用字，可知工作地点是要住在香港。
base在英文里是「基地、根据地」；在职场上，如果描述一家公司以“Seoul-based Jupiter Corporation”这样的说法时，表示这家公司的名字是Jupiter Corporation，而它的总公司位于Seoul（首尔），所以是Seoul-based。
“Key Responsibilities”是指这份工作的「主要工作内容与职掌」。第一条的“Carry out inflight safety and security procedures”指的是要「执行航机上的安全与保全程序」。这“carry out”是常用的动词片语，表示「执行、实现」。而security与procedure也都是职场的重要字。
security [sɪˋkjʊrətɪ] n. 安全、保障、保全procedure [prəˋsidʒɚ] n. 程序、手续、步骤
第二条的“Provide excellent customer service which exceeds passengers’ expectations”指的是要「提供超过乘客期待的优质客户服务」。句中的which是关系代名词，修饰形容前面的customer service。可见空服员不只是要光鲜亮丽，还要提供比乘客的标准更高的服务品质。

第三条的“Anticipate and respond to passengers’ needs promptly and in a professional manner”指的是要「迅速而且以专业的方式预期并且回应旅客的需求」。句中的副词promptly（迅速、敏捷的）与介系词片语“in a professional manner”都是用来修饰形容句中的一般动词“Anticipate and respond to”。看来空服员不好当，因为你要预知乘客会有什么需求，除了迅速满足乘客的需求之外，你还得表现的很专业。manner在国际职埸里可以指「礼貌」，但也指「方式、方法」，须视前后文而定，在此的“in a professional manner”当然是指「以专业的方式」。
标题“Requirements”是指这份工作的「应征条件」，它的动词require可是核心字汇，有「要求、需求」之意，其过去分词required现在常被拿来当「必须的、必修的」，而名词requirement则是职场常用的「必要条件」。要当空服员的必要条件则有：中华民国国民、满18岁、高中毕业、英文中文听说读流利。第三外国语能力尤佳。
光是这些不够，你必须有非常好的人际沟通技巧（polished interpersonal skills），必须态度正面积极（with a positive attitude），并且要有「以顾客为导向的思维模式」（customer-oriented mindset）。显然，男生如果是妈宝、女生如果是大小姐脾气或是公主病，都不适合这份空服员的工作。
最后一项则是伸出手臂可触及208公分高度，并且要通过职前体适能测验。
招考、雇用、应征与广告这些属于「人事」类的情境，都是在国际职埸里经常发生的事情，因此也非常受到多益测验出题者的喜爱。快来试一试多益测验的身手：
