【英语多益通】示威和展示有什么关系？

越南与中国因为南海海域上的钻油平台而剑拔弩张，越南人民发起示威，但是示威活动变了调，成了目标对准中国投资厂区的暴力打砸抢，并且造成死亡。这项越南人的抗议活动更不分青红皂白的波及台湾产商业界在越南的投资厂区。看到台商没命似的逃离暴乱危城，画面怵目惊心。
事情闹得不可开交，我们很难不看到国际媒体对这件事的报导。「暴动」的英语字汇是riot，「抗议」是protest，而这次的暴动据说是源自越南政府默许的「示威」，示威的英语字汇是demonstration。
华人纷纷躲避，因为据说这个周末还会有大规模的示威：Whether the demonstration will be held this weekend remains uncertain.（周末是否会举行示威仍不确定。）
抗议中国的示威活动在河内与胡志明市，示威群众成千上万：Vietnamese protesters staged large anti-China demonstrations with thousands of people gathering in multiple cities.（越南抗议者发动大型反华示威，成千上万的人在数个城市聚集。）
台资企业也受到波及：The Taiwanese businesses were targeted in an apparent case of mistaken identity by demonstrators.（台湾企业在明显的错认身份个案中被示威者当作目标。）
暴动的「riot」与抗议的「protest」不一定在国际职场出现，倒是「示威」的「demonstration」可是国际职场与多益测验的核心字汇，借此机会学一学此字的用法。
demonstration在国际政治的新闻英语中，最常出现的用法是「示威、示威活动」，但是在国际职场与多益测验里，它还有另一重要用法是「示范、示范表演、展示、演示、表露」之意。demonstration是名词，读作[͵dɛmənˋstreʃən]，它的动词是demonstrate，读作[`dɛmənˏstret]，小心不要读成[ˏdɪ`mɑnstret]，那样是母音与重音都不正确；而此次越南排华活动中的示威者是字尾「-or」表示「人」的「demonstrator」。
例句：Various 3D drawing techniques will be demonstrated in the computer fair.（在电脑博览会上有人将表演展示各种3D绘图技巧。）
The marketing manager will be doing a product demonstration at the kitchen appliance convention in Seoul.（行销部经理将在首尔的厨具展进行产品示范。）
在国际新闻英语中常以「示威」出现的demonstration，在多益测验与职场里，却常见它「展示、示范」的字义，而且它还经常出现在测试的「听力」部份，请看以下《多益测验官方全真试题指南Ⅲ》Part 4，听力独白部份92-94题的例子：

解析：本题的正确答案是(C)。题目是问：「按照时间表，接下来会有什么事发生？」听力CD中的女士说：「欢迎各位参加新科技博览会。在今天的排程中，各位有机会呈现你们公司的最新产品。今天的示范将很精彩。但在开始前，我必须做以下的宣布…」由此可推正确答案是(C)。
