【英语多益通】我们的主场！台湾「clock the record」是什么意思？

2017台北世大运赛事已来到倒数阶段，自开赛以来台湾选手屡屡传来捷报，中华代表团表现抢眼可说是有目共睹。其中，台湾在标枪、田径、举重等项目打破全国、亚洲，甚至世界纪录，让全国人民无不为之疯狂。
此时正是让外国友人见证台湾软实力的时候！我们不妨趁机学赛事相关英文，让你能用英文畅谈中华队的表现。另外，这些词汇也经常出现在多益测验中，学会以下英文用语，无论面对外国人或考试都没烦恼！
1. set a record 创下纪录 在本届世大运中，有好几位台湾选手创下纪录，来看看这个片语如何应用。
Cheng Chao-Tsun（郑兆村）yesterday added another gold medal to Taiwan’s tally at the Taipei Summer Universiade and set a Universiade javelin record of 91.36m.（郑兆村昨日在2017台北世大运又帮台湾赢得一金入袋，并且以91.36公尺创下了世大运标枪的纪录。）
set a record是谈到运动赛事必会出现的片语，只是上文中加入一些其他讯息表达详细资讯，顺序由大到小，赛事到项目。(1) 先说明关于什么赛事的纪录：the Taipei Summer Universiade 台北世大运(2) 接着说何种比赛的项目：Universiade javelin 世大运标枪项目
另外句中用了tally这个单字，英文解释为a current score or amount（目前的得分或数量），也就是中华队目前累积奖牌数的意思，而郑兆村的成绩让台湾奖牌数更上层楼。
2. clock 取得、设下纪录clock这个字令你感到匪夷所思吗？请看以下例句：
Irishman Shane Ryan was already knocking on the door of a breakthrough swim when clocking a new national record last night in the men’s 50m backstroke, but the 23-year-old made history in Taipei tonight.（爱尔兰选手Shane Ryany在昨晚的男子50公尺仰式项目早已取得国内新纪录，敲开游泳项目突破的大门，而今晚这名年仅23岁的选手则是创造了历史。）
用clock来表达「取得、设下纪录」的动词，乍看之下似乎很难懂，不过若是想想选手比赛时都是用时钟计时来决定成绩高低，就不难想像这个用法。裁判按下码表的那刻决定了选手的命运，这也正是他们创造纪录的时刻。
3. break the record打破纪录除了创纪录之外，在谈论运动比赛经常说的「打破纪录」该如何表达呢？
Kopron broke a record of 75.83 set by Germany’s Betty Heidler in 2009.（Kopron则是打破了由德国好手Betty Heidler在2009年所创下75.83的纪录。）
从例句可见，动词break能用来表示「打破纪录」。文中broke a record of 后面接由谁设下的纪录，数字75.83是该选手当初设下的纪录，所以本句的意思为「Kopron打破由Betty Heidler设下的75.83纪录」。
Cheng’s throw broke the previous Universiade record set by Italy’s Marius Corbett in 1997. （郑兆村这一掷打破了前一届世大运义大利选手Marius Corbett在1997年所设下的纪录。）
上文则是与前述创纪录采用同样的表达法，在中间加上特定讯息，增加句子丰富度，previous（之前的）在此指的是上一届的世大运。另外，以上两例句都用了set by表达设下先前纪录的人是谁，正是前面set a record中的设立一词。
4. a personal best of 个人最佳成绩～讨论运动比赛怎能忽略选手的「个人最佳成绩」？来看看如何用英文表达吧！
In the women’s 200m final, Italy’s Irene Siragusa won gold with a personal best of 22.96 seconds, followed by Latvia’s Gunta Latiseva Cudare, who took silver with a personal best of 23.15 seconds, and Italy’s Anna Bongiorni won bronze with 23.47 seconds.（在女子两百公尺决赛中，义大利的Irene Siragusa则是以个人最佳成绩22.96秒赢得金牌，而拉脱维亚的Gunta Latiseva Cudare则是以个人最佳成绩23.15秒赢得银牌，最后义大利的Anna Bongiorni以23.47秒赢得铜牌。）
文中提到两位选手都破了个人纪录，因此作者用了两次a personal best of 来表达他们个人最佳成绩，介系词 of 后面也是加上此纪录内容，用数字表达。
在说明获得银牌的选手时所使用的followed by是「接着为～」。原句的意思是 Italy’s Irene Siragusa was followed by Latvia’s Gunta Latiseva Cudare. 用被动态表达了后者的纪录跟着前者，也就是「紧接着」，所以followed by后面都要加上第二名或第二位。
