【英语多益通】重要档案被「加密」！哭哭前先学英文encrypt

近日，全球有上百个国家的个人与商用电脑，遭到「勒索软体WannaCry」网路攻击，这个恶意软体会锁住电脑档案，并向受害者勒索比特币来开锁。台湾也深受其害，不晓得开机后是不是要面对文件资料「被绑架」的情形。
如果你打开电脑发现奇怪的状况，想和外国同事讨论时，该怎么用英文表达呢？我们以May和Jay的对话为范例，学一些好用的单字，还能帮助你解多益测验的题目，想不到吧！
Timer (n.) 计时器
May: My computer crashed when I turned it on. All I got on the screen was a strange, frozen image showing a big lock, a couple of timers, and a bunch of words I didn’t quite understand.（我的电脑在开机时当掉了。我在荧幕上只能看到奇怪的冻结画面，有一把大锁，两个计时器，还有一堆我看不太懂的文字。）
Jay: OMG, your computer has been hacked. The hackers have encrypted your files.（老天爷啊！妳的电脑被骇了。骇客把妳的档案加密了。）
许多电器用品上面都有计时器，如烤箱、微波炉等，称为automatic timer （自动计时器）。计时器故障automatic timer malfunction常出现在听力的独白题与阅读测验当中，作为客户投诉（customer complaint）的缘由之一。而「填客诉单」to file a complaint，也是常考的片语。
请注意automatic （自动的） 与automated（自动化的） 语意不同！automated专指「以机器取代人力」，如影印机、ATM（自动提款机）；而automatic则泛指任何自发的动作，如the ban automatically takes effect（禁令自动生效），但不能用automated。

这次爆发的勒索病毒WannaCry，赎金收取比特币（Bitcoin），令比特币备受关注。关于比特币，有哪些多益单字可以学呢？
Jay: They lock your files and you have to pay them to get your computer back to normal. The standard payment is US$300-600. But you can’t pay them cash. You have to pay in bitcoins.（他们把妳的档案锁住，妳得付钱才能让电脑恢复正常。标准的金额是三百到六百美金左右。妳还不能付现金，而得付比特。.）
May: Bitcoins? I’ve never heard of that kind of currency. Is it more valuable than NT dollars? Should I pay? I’ve got some really important files in my computer.（比特币？我从没听说过这种货币。它比新台币大还是小？我该付钱吗？我的电脑里面有很重要的档案耶！）
Currency基本意思是「流通」，也指「通货；货币」，同字源且容易混淆的字汇包括：Current n. 水流Current a. 目前的Currently adv. 目前地
Valuable形容词为「值钱的」，若当作名词，意思是「贵重物品」，常用复数呈现。例句：The movie star had to sell most of her valuables to pay the debts.（那位电影明星必需卖掉绝大多数的贵重物品，才能偿还她的债务。）

Jay: Don’t worry. What’s an IT guy for? I believe there are other colleagues in the office who are having the same problem. I’ll get my team and deal with it, and you will have your computer back in no time.（别担心，资讯部是拿来干嘛的？我相信办公室里还有其他同事正面临相同的问题。我会找我的组员来一起解决这问题，妳应该很快就可以拿回妳的电脑了。）

解析：题目问Toyoda先生的公司发生什么问题？两人的对话中提到一些电脑中了勒索软体病毒，所以选(C)。选项(B)意思是「很多同事感染virus（病毒）」，此病毒意指「流行感冒」而非「电脑病毒」。
2. What was the reason behind the problem?(A) Many of Mr. Toyoda’s colleagues didn’t update their computer software.(B) The hackers were former employees of Mr. Toyoda’s company.(C) Many customers complained about Toyoda’s service.(D) Mr. Toyoda didn’t know how to update his computer.
解析：发生问题的原因是Toyoda先生的许多同事没有更新电脑，才会中毒，故选(A)。对话中并未提及骇客是Toyoda先生公司的前员工，也没提到Toyoda先生是否懂得如何更新电脑，因此不能选(B)和(D)。
3. What has John told his family and coworkers to be careful about?(A) Saving files often in case their computers crash.(B) Questionable emails and websites.(C) Colleagues who may steal their files.(D) The people they hire to hack their computers.
解析：John嘱咐同事与家人该小心的是不要打开不明电邮或上可疑网站，故选(B)。选项(A)常储存档案以防电脑当机，对话中并未提到；(D)他们雇用来骇入他们电脑的人，不合逻辑，且原文也未提及。
翻译约翰：丰田先生，我听说贵公司发生勒索软体攻击事件，一切都还好吗？办公室里有那么多台电脑，是全部的电脑都遭攻击，还是只有部分被骇呢？
丰田先生：谢谢你的关心。公司内几乎一半的电脑都被攻击了，我们真应该定期更新作业系统。我们之所以没这么做，是因为许多员工抱怨更新软体让他们的电脑速度变慢。无论如何，我们雇用一些专家，也已经解决问题了。
约翰：听到你说没事那真是太好了。我已经告诉我的同事和家人要对诈骗邮件和不熟悉的网站提高警觉，因为这两者是电脑病毒和恶意程式的最大来源。
