【英语多益通】校正回归正夯 英文怎么说？

近日台湾疫情严峻使得全国进入第三级警戒，台湾人民每日心情随着不断增加的确诊人数而起伏不定，而上周末最夯的新词汇，大概非「校正回归」莫属。事实上，校正回归的概念过去在其他国家就曾出现过，让我们从这次的报导学多益字吧！
backlog 校正回归、待完成的工作
这次引发热烈讨论的「校正回归」，英文是backlog (n)，也可以用retrospective adjustment。log在英文中有纪录的意思，像是船长的航海纪录本上写的就是log。延伸到现在无所不在的网路用语，登入网站的动作就叫log in，因为登入网站就会留下纪录，因此这里backlog的用法就是代表后来才登录的资料，这次疫情指挥中心就称为「校正回归」。
The CECC announced that, as it is working through the current backlog of unprocessed tests, 170 new cases were added to the past week. （疫情指挥中心宣布当他们持续处理目前未经处理的检验回归校正数据时，170个新案件被加入上周的确诊数据。）
但其实backlog在职场上也很常见，有「待完成、积压的工作」意思，尤其会指客户已经预订但还未履行的产品或服务。
I've got a huge backlog of work to do.（我有大量待处理的工作要做。）
There is a backlog of orders waiting to be processed.（大批积压订单等待处理。）
unprocessed (adj) 是「未经处理过的」，字首「un-」有否定的意思，process在这里当动词「处理」，字尾「-ed」则是形容词变化，因此相反地，processed food指的就是处理过的食物，也就是「加工食品」。
There are ways to eat healthy, unprocessed food on a budget.（有一些方法可以不花太多钱就能吃到健康、非加工食物。）
死亡人数 death toll
除了校正回归外，由于近期确诊案例激增，死亡人数（death toll）也明显增加。
Six new deaths from COVID-19 were also announced in what was Taiwan’s largest one-day tick in deaths from the coronavirus.（这六起新增的新冠肺炎死亡个案，也被宣告为台湾单日最高的死亡案例。）
one-day tick 代表「一天、短时间内」，tick指的就是很短的时间a very short time，所以这里说的就是在一天内、一个很短的时间中所发生的事情。（备注：此用法为新闻记者的个人说法。）
死亡人数的英文是death toll (n) 。toll比较常见的用法是过路费的意思，但美式英文里toll还有另一个重要意思a high degree of suffering or damage（高强度的受苦受难或伤害），将这个用法连结到死亡人数，就比较可以理解了。
They’re raising the bridge toll to $5.00. （他们的过桥费要涨到5块钱。）
The deepening recession has also taken its toll in the south of the country, where unemployment is rife.（日益加剧的经济衰退也严重影响到该国南部地区，那里的失业率居高不下。）
疫情爆发 outbreak
The CECC has stated that, in its current investigations into the start of the outbreak, it does not rule out that the origin did not originate from China Airlines pilots. （疫情指挥中心指出在他们目前针对此次疫情爆发的调查中，并不能排除源头并非来自于华航机师。）
outbreak (n) 是「爆发」的意思，这个复合名词来自于break out (v) ，但 breakout (n)则是代表「突破、越狱」的意思。很多人会搞混这两种用法，千万要注意。
Social and political problems led to the outbreak of war.（社会和政治问题导致战争爆发。）
The police is investigating the prison breakout.（警察在调查逃狱事件。）
rule out (v) 代表「排除」，这个动词片语常见于生活对话中，可以解释为在规则之外的，所以不符合我们要找的对象，就是排除的意思。
The police have not ruled him out as a suspect.（警察尚未排除他的嫌疑。）
描述数据的说法
While past numbers showed a decline from a peak of 5.8% on May 15th to a low of 2.2% on May 19th, this has climbed back up to 3.4% yesterday. （尽管过去的数字显示从5月15日5.8%的高峰降到了5月19日的2.2%低点，此数字也在昨天回升到3.4%。）
这里可以来学一下数据描述的英文说法： 这里show a decline的decline是名词用法，但它也可以替换成动词，例如increase等其他常见的动词。
From A to B是个常见的用法应该没什么问题，然而后面的peak强调原本的高峰，a peak of + % 就是个常用来描述高峰数据的说法；降到低点用low表示，a low of + %则是相对概念，值得趁机学习。
climbed back up to是往上升的概念，很写实地用climb这个动词点出一个动态的概念，加上back就有回升的意思。另外更口语的说法，也可以用go up的动词片语来表示，increase则是相对decrease的动词。
若能掌握这几个单字，再用不同副词来修饰，如dramatically、drastically、slowly、slightly等，就可以活用表达上升下降的程度状态。

解析：
1. 正解为(D) 。题意为「Douglas行销公司提供客制化的_____来帮助你发展适合妳公司的计划。」这题要选的答案是名词，并且必须要符合前后文的意思，因此答案很明显要选 (D)协助，因为这间行销公司的产品，主要就是协助客户制作合适的行销计划。
2. 正解为(A)。题意为「怎么做呢？我们初阶的两天课程_____你行销基础概念。」很明显的，这里的空格要选适合的动词，因为这是篇广告文，要预告一个未来的研习活动，因此课程还未开始，必须要用未来式，因此答案要选(A)。
3. 正解为(D)。题意为「你们将共同挑选关键的____，帮助你连结新顾客。」空格要选的是名词，而前面的key是形容词，因此答案就只能选(D)策略。
