【英语多益通】跟着国家地理杂志游台湾

中文有句谚语：「外来的和尚会念经。」身在台湾的我们，身在福中不知福，不知道台湾有多美好，就让外国的杂志来诉说吧！美国《国家地理杂志》（National Geographic）的一篇「2015年全球最佳旅游地点」（Best Trip 2015），列出全球20个2015年一定要去一探的地方（must-see places）；令人有些意外的是，台湾居然名列其中，与日本、瑞士等国并列！
何不就用这篇文章，带着外国客户在羊年春节六天的假期中，畅游台湾。文章中介绍游台湾的「When to Go」、「How to Get Around」、「Where to Stay」、「Where to Eat or Drink」、「What to Buy」等等，吃喝玩乐游福尔摩莎又兼学旅游英语：
When to Go 何时去台湾？Fifteenth day of the first lunar month, Taiwan Lantern Festival, Nantou;（农历第一个月的15日，台湾元宵节，南投）
* lunar [ˋlunɚ] (a.) 农历的；月的* lantern [ˋlæntɚn] (n.) 灯笼；提灯
《国家地理杂志》推荐了几个游台湾的时间点，其中之一是农历正月15号，也就是台湾农历年节尾声的元宵节（Lantern Festival）。它建议的应该是南投的「元宵灯会」。
How to Get Around 如何在台湾趴趴走？Traveling by train is the best, and most affordable, option. The Taiwan Railways system loops all the way around Taiwan, making it possible (with transfers) to visit most regions.（搭火车游台湾是最佳也最负担得起的选项。台铁系统环绕台湾，可以造访大部份地区（要换车）。）

《国家地理杂志》推荐搭乘台铁火车游台湾最为实惠，因为台铁系统几乎可以到达台湾的任何角落。所以啰，先做好功课，再带着外国客户搭台铁火车到处趴趴走，台铁的排骨便当不能错过。喔！对了，便当的英文是lunch box。
Where to Stay 在哪里住宿？Try both styles in the Complex suite, a Western-Japanese hybrid with sliding wall dividers creating two separate sleeping areas. Take the hotel shuttle from the Chiaohsi train station (advance reservations required).（试试西式与日式混合的复合式套房，有可滑式隔间门分开两个寝间。从礁溪火车站可搭饭店接驳车（要先预约）。）

《国家地理杂志》推荐到礁溪住宿一晚，享受温泉与日、西式合并的复合式套房。外国客户对于睡「榻榻米」（tatami）应该感到很新鲜吧！但是《国家地理杂志》提醒你要「提前预约」（advance reservations required），其中的advance是多益测验（www.toeic.com.tw）的高频字，有「前进、进步、晋升」的多重字义，更有「预先」之意，常用片语是「in advance」
例句：We have to inform our clients in advance.（我们必须预先告知客户。）
Where to Eat or Drink 在哪里吃喝？Snack your way through Taipei’s ubiquitous street food markets, such as Shida Night Market and Raohe Street Tourist Night Market.（一路吃遍台北到处都有的街市小吃，例如师大夜市与饶河街观光夜市。）

《国家地理杂志》推荐台湾到处都有的路边小吃，尤其提到台北的师大夜市（Shida Night Market）与饶河街观光夜市（Raohe Street Tourist Night Market）。「夜市」的英文是night market。
What to Buy 买什么？Shop for Chinese medicinal herbs; textiles and fabrics; and tea, dried fruits, and candy in the storefronts lining Taipei’s Dihua Street.（选购中式药草、纺织品与布料；迪化街店家门口都陈列着茶、水果干、糖果。）

《国家地理杂志》推荐颇有东方味的台北迪化街，这里原本是布料市场，但现在可是春节期间必游的年货大街景点。

解析：本题的正确答案是(B)。依句意来看，应该是「即将召开的讨论会所需要的资料，最晚要在两天前印好。」本句的主词是「All materials which are required for the upcoming seminar」，其中的which are省略掉了。
本题的片语in advance（预先）与答案(B)的required都在前述《国家地理杂志》一文中的「Where to Stay」，饭店要先订房的「advance reservations required」提到过。
