【英语多益通】想合理的退货 一定要学会3个英文单字

近日桂格燕麦片中含有农药的新闻，又使食安问题浮上台面，消费者纷纷抢着要退货。外国大型卖场如Costco等对于退货的规则自有一番明确的规定，若是在国外购物后想要退货时，首先必须先搞清楚英文的说法；此外，这也是多益测验常见的情境考题。
但是，退费、补偿的英文有不同单字，且中文翻译非常类似，一不小心就容易搞混，造成使用上的错误。那么到底该怎么使用呢？今天就来学学refund、reimburse、compensate这三个退货相关的英文单字，往后若遇到要退货时，就能正确表达你的意思啰！
1.refund (v.) (n.) 退钱－货物退回时得到的钱refund的re-字首代表「again、back」，fund是金钱、资金，两者合起来的意思是give the money back，也就是「退钱」。
词类变化：refundable (adj.) 偿还的refundability (n.) 偿还性
例句：We guarantee your satisfaction on every product we sell, and will refund your purchase price. 这是从Costco网站的退换货规则里撷取出来的句子，意思是「我们保证您对于本卖场所贩卖产品的满意度，且会全额退货。」
重点单字：1. guarantee (v.) 保证guarantee是很常见的单字，另一个单字warranty（名词），主要指的是以纸本的形式保证商品，也就是所谓的「保证书」，如a 30-day manufacturer’s warranty（一份厂商提供的30天保证书）。
2. satisfaction (n.) 满意度satisfy (v.) 对…满意satisfactory (adj.) 表示「感到满意的」，常用在客服，如satisfactory service。
3. purchase (v.) (n.) 购买、采购

2.reimburse (v.) 补偿－付还之前先垫的款项假如员工因为出公差必须预先支出一笔费用，事后持有收据向会计部门申请补偿，即可用reimburse。我们将单字拆解后会发现，「im-」字首在英文有inside的意思，它是由「in-」转变而来。若「im-」后面的字母为发唇音（p、b、m）时，为了更方便发音就把「in-」改成「im-」；而「-burse」是由拉丁文bursa转变而来，有purse（皮包）的意思。若将这些意思结合，便是「give the money back and put it into the purse」补偿你金钱的意思。

例句：Business expenses may be reimbursed if an individual paid the expense from personal funds. 这句是从Princeton University（普林斯顿大学） 网站上，针对职员事先垫付款项Reimbursement policy的说明，意思为「若是个人因公先预付费用，其公事款项可以申请补偿」。

3.compensate (v.) 补偿 compensate同样翻为补偿，但是指的却是「因令人不快的服务或者顾客的损失提供补偿」或是「针对员工不利的状况提供补偿」，明显是用在较为负面的情况。

例句：The objectives of the Group’s compensation policy include attracting and retaining employees.这是从瑞士瑞信银行（Credit Suisse）的网站上撷取的内容，主要说明其员工补偿政策的目的。意思为「本集团（员工）补偿政策的目的包含吸引及留住员工」。
重点单字：1. objective (n.) 目标
2. retain (v.) 保留字根「-tain」来自拉丁文「-tenere」，有「hold」的意思，因此原意为「hold back」表示保留。
